..--- What we spent on boat Improvements, Services and Other Items ---... _____________________________________________________________________________________
When we bought the Endeavour we quickly noticed the wide price range they were selling for. We ended up picking a boat that wasn't the lowest price or the highest price. With that in mind I'm sure you might be asking yourself why you would consider our boat going at $39,500 vs. say another one that was listed for less. The previous owner of our boat had made some upgrades to the boat. We felt we could make additional ones and get on the water in a reasonable amount of time. Like many other boat owners, we ended up spending a lot longer than anticipated to set the boat up for comfortable long distance cruising. Also a lot more money was spent than anticipated. Although we purchased the boat in 2011, it wasn't until 2018 that we were able to actually get on the water. Health and other reasons caused some of that delay, but spending the time and money to really make the boat a good cruising boat played a big part. We spent four years working on the boat in the boatyard for 4-5 months at a time. We also spent many months and a lot of money working on canvas and other projects at our home in Utah. I'm going to list mods that were important to us. I'll include costs for us along with what it probably would of cost if we would have the farmed the work out instead of doing it ourselves. We did still have some work done by contractors. When taking a look at other boats I'd consider how many of the following mods or repairs still need to be done and consider if you will be doing the work or someone else will be doing the work. Some of the following will probably be maintenance items needed for any boat of this age if they haven't already been done and other items will need to be done to make the boat a functional cruiser. As you look through the associated links take a moment to consider if you have the tools to preform these jobs along with the time that is required. _____________________________________________________________________________________ .............. --- Total Costs for all the Improvements Listed Below --- $26,959.00 --- What we spent on boat Improvements, Services and Other Items. $50,199.00 --- Probably what it would cost to have the work done at a yard by a contractor …..............at $95.00 an hour (the common rate where we have the boat). . _____________________________________________________________________________________ …...--- Exterior Modifications, Repairs or Service Related --- Our Cost --- Probable Cost --- Modification or No Labor.... ..With Labor........ Addition to Boat $5,000.00.... ..$6,000.00 ........ Strip Bottom Paint, Repair Blisters, Barrier Paint and Bottom Paint. ***After seeing a paid bill for blister repair by previous owner we made the mistake of not pulling the boat out and checking the bottom. It ended up they only spotted barrier paint in during the repair and new blisters formed. We paid $1200 to have the bottom stripped and another $2500 to have the blisters repaired. We then applied the appropriate amount of barrier paint on the whole bottom and used a high quality bottom paint. The moral of the story is don't buy a boat without seeing the bottom.
