.........................--- 6 Gallon High Gravity Tank in Cockpit Coaming --
======================================================
Note: To fill this tank see instructions at bottom of this page
======================================================
This tank was installed up inside the cockpit coaming on the starboard side for a couple reasons. One was to increase the fixed tank water storage from 80 gallons to 86 gallons (plus another 44 gallons in removable containers). Another was to provide a gravity supply source to the galley sink that wasn't dependent on the high pressure water pump pumping from the four 20 gallon tanks in the bilge area.
Writing this on our first cruise with the boat it has worked very well and is really a great way to conserve water usage. Since this tank isn't much higher than the sink faucet in the galley there isn't much water pressure. Due to this you can turn the faucet on to wash dishes, or yourself, and ….
.. you only get a small stream out of it. Plenty to wash and rinse with yet not so much that you use a lot of water doing those things. Using it for washing we have been using about 1 gallon a day for washing and ..
using water from the removable containers and the 2 gallon jugs above we have used about another gallon a day for drinking so just a little over 2 gallons a day. With the current total storage of 130 gallons we can go about 2 months with the water on-board.
The Endeavour has a high coaming around the cockpit and there was room...
. up there for ...
. the tank. Just below it is the plumbing for the galley and also the high pressure pump that can be used in the galley and that is used to pump water from the four 20 gallon tanks in the bilge up to the 6 gallon tank in the coaming.

The picture above was taken with the camera up in the coaming and looking forward.

The tank was placed as high as possible to create a 'head' by having the tank higher than the faucet at the sink in the galley. The tank has worked well in conserving water as since the 'head' isn't high the flow is low to the sink. With the high pressure pump providing water to the sink it is hard to get a small stream from the faucet consistently. If someone ends up with the boat and keeps it at a dock where it is easy to refill the tanks then the high pressure might be the way to go.

Instructions to fill this tank:
1. Turn on the high pressure water pump.
2. Make sure the hose fitting outside the coaming is closed ....
3. Close valve from tank to sink (it is open in picture)…..........
4. Open all 4 vertical valves (they aren't correct in picture) ..
5. Water will flow from bilge tanks to high tank.
6. When water starts to come out of the vent line from the high tank close 3 of the valves leaving only the vent valve for the high tank open.
7. Reopen the valve from high tank to sink (see step 3)
This doesn't take much time. Just the amount of time for the pump to fill the tank and opening and closing the valves.
