................ --- Work Platform & Sitting Roller/Creeper ---

=========================================

I made a couple simple to build aids that come in handy when working under the layout or on it towards the center.

The creeper comes in really handy if I'm working on the bottom side of the layout, say installing a servo mount, and looking and working above my head. It is comfortable and easy to move around on. More info on building it ( HERE ).

The work platform makes it easy to reach further towards the center of the layout. My layout's lower level is at 46” and the upper is 56”. I'm 6 foot and standing on the floor I can reach in on the lower level 33” if I had to pickup a car or loco that derailed. Realistically I can work to about 23-24 inches in.

Standing on the platform I can work on the layout pretty easily in to the 33 inches that standing is only comfortable for picking something up. Closer to the edge standing on the platform I'm working under myself not in front of myself as I would be standing on the floor which is often a better position to be in.

The platform is very stable and since I have concrete floors it is easy to slide the metal milk container bases around but standing on the platform they don't slide.

The roller/creeper shown above is handy as I can sit on it and roll under the layout and....

. work on something that I have mounted to the benchwork like making the electrical connections above or if a riser ( more on them HERE ) is in the way of installing a servo bracket and I want to unscrew it and move it.

The bottom of the benchwork shown above that the wiring is connected to is at 38 inches. I duck and roll under that and into an opening (there are many). In the opening the bottom of the layout is at 45 inches so I can then straighten my head up and work looking straight ahead.

The three work aids above have made working on the layout much more enjoyable and productive. Well worth the time it took to build them. Don't love going under the layout at almost 80 but don't hate it either.

For info on the creeper shown above go ( HERE).
