.....................................................--- MacGregor 26S Specs, Equipment List & Mods ---
As you look below at the modifications that have been done you will see this boat has gone from a good day sailboat to a great cruising boat. The improved water and supplies storage capacity now allows one to go up to 1-2 months without restocking which I did on a 3 month trip to the Bahamas single-handed. As you look below at the modifications that have been done you will see this boat has gone from a good day sailboat to a great cruising boat.
The galley area has been greatly improved vs. a stock MacGregor with expanded storage and an enlarged work area and a movable table. A galley that allows for preparing meals with greater comfort and ease. The boat now also has a close to 2.12 (65 Quart) 12 volt refrigerator. More on interior mods ( HERE ).
560 watts of solar power means you never have to run the engine or a generator to meet your power needs. More on the solar power ( HERE ).
The boats bottom is in great shape with a good barrier paint and bottom paint applied. If the boat will be in salt water for extended times I'd put on a fresh coat of bottom paint over what is there and that would be a relatively easy job.
Two anchor rollers along with a 22 lb. Claw anchor and a 25 lb. Manson Supreme anchors (both over-sized) and over-sized rope/chain rodes. There are additional rodes and also an additional over-sized Fortress anchor that breaks down and is stored below. The anchoring options on this boat will give peace of mind regardless of the conditions short of a hurricane. The boat has been on anchor during cruises where the wind speeds have been over 50 mph. More info on the anchors and such ( HERE ).
The Mac actually has two heads. We prefer to use the one that utilizes Double Doodie bags. A 5 gallon bucket with a sealed lid will hold enough bags for about a month of daily use without having to service the head. The second head has a small holding tank and you can pump out if your are in the ocean out far enough to be legal or the head can be pumped out at a marina or the holding tank can be removed and taken ashore and dumped. More info on the site about both ( HERE ). The second head with the pump-out option makes you totally legal in places like the Florida Keys were that is required.

For a nice idea of how well the boat sails take a look at the video ( HERE ). The boat was fully loaded for my single-handed trip to the Bahamas with the dingy in tow and with a friend and his dog along for a day sail before continuing on. If you let the boat heel over a bit it will settle and sail like it is on rails.

Note: The boat is sold as-is at the time of the sale. The computer and chart
plotter shown in the boat build is not included in the sale of the boat. There
might be some other items shown in the boat build pages on the internet that
are also not included. If you want to make sure something is included please
ask. The following mods were also done over the years I owned the boat.
Some are newer and fresher and others need refreshing. Again ask if you
need more info.
Note: The two 12 volt batteries for the trolling motor that can also be used as additional
house power need to be replace. The two 6 volt batteries are still taking a charge
but are quite old now so I'd also consider replacing them. The AM/FM radio/cassette
player in the overhead does not work.

The original MacGregor trailer has also been heavily modified to provide safe long distance travel with the boat vs. the stock single axle trailer with no brakes. It was designed to be inexpensive to make and get the boar from your house to the boat ramp. One would spend well over a thousand dollars and many hours to bring the stock trailer up to the point this trailer is at.
The Mac has been trailered from Utah to Florida (4400 miles round trip) twice and to Canada, Colorado, Wyoming and in Utah with no trailer problems. Many of the mods below also make the boat very easy to launch and retrieve vs. the stock trailer. Even with no boat ramp like ( HERE ).
Second axle with 'surge disk brakes' ( HERE ) Added a sub-frame to the original frame for more strength ( HERE ) Extended the frame and add 3rd bunk to better support the boat ( HERE ) Extensive Side Bunk Build ( HERE ) (Added heavy duty side bunks that make the boat easy to launch and retrieve, like { HERE }.) Spare Tire Holder with an extra hub & bearings if ever needed ( HERE ) Centerboard Support and Roller ( HERE ) Bow Roller ( HERE ) New Front and Mid Bunk ( HERE ) Adjustable Bow Support ( HERE ) Dinghy/Inflatable Related:
A Zodiac Zoom inflatable is also included in the sale. This has been a great dingy over the years and I've never regretted getting it. It is very stable in all kinds of weather/wave conditions. Much better than a hard sided dinghy. It has a hard floor so easy to get around in and you can haul a lot in it from shore to the boat if needed. I've pulled it over 2000 miles behind the Mac without a problem. I tow with a main line but always have a second on it 'just in case'. Never had to use it but never wanted to look back and see that the line had broken and the inflatable was no where in sight.
With the long-shaft 5HP Nissan it will plane with one person. With advanced age putting the 5HP on and off on the water as I don't tow with the outboard on was getting hard even though it only weighed 60lb.. Still have the 5HP that runs good and could be sold but bought a new 3.5HP Nissan long shaft as it was considerably lighter. Being a long shaft in an emergency it could also power the Mac. Would probably push it at 4-5 mph. The 5HP and 3.5HP were both both with powering the Mac if for some reason that became needed.
Some of the items with the dinghy: Patch and seam repair supplies, tow ropes, couple 12v air pumps to inflate with , 2 foot pumps to inflate or top off the air, under seat storage compartment, dinghy chaps to protect the boat from the sun's rays, safety equipment required in some places for a tender, cable to lock the boat to a pier when going ashore, fuel tank, swim ladder, paddles and more that I'm forgetting.
NOTE: This dingy has gotten a lot of use, so the cover doesn't look new anymore and the boat has some slow air leaks and water leaks into the boat along some seams. The last couple times we used it I would sponge water out every couple days or so. It doesn't pour in. It is hard to tell about air leaks as the cool night air can make the inflatable look a little deflated and then when the sun is on it and expands the air it will blow up tight. I keep a foot pump in the compartment under the seat and usually a few pumps (you can use your hands) will top it off if it seems low. The air and water leaks could be worked on with patch and seam work. You can find this on the internet.
Raised the Transom for long shaft motor ( HERE ) Has large capacity fuel tank ( HERE ) Transom mounted tow strap ( HERE ) Dinghy Chaps ( HERE ) Under-seat Storage ( HERE ) Miscellaneous Related: One full wet suit and a couple partial ones with weight belt. Nice to have if you have to go into cold water. High power binoculars with night vision. Lots of flares that are out of date but would still probably work if needed. Electronic flare that doesn't go out of date like this one ( HERE ) Sunbrella bags for a lot of uses. Extra fusees Hand Compass More miscellaneous, basically anything related to extra parts and other items that were used with the Mac. Sailrite LSZ-1 Sewing Machine and Supplies: Sailrite LSZ-1 Sewing Machine ( HERE ) and ( HERE ) – This sewing machine sells for over $1200 new and over $1500 with the accessories we have for it and I've seen them go for well over $800 used so this is an item one could sell if they felt they weren't going to use it but it sure comes in handy for the boat and other projects. Sailrite LSZ-1 Sewing Machine Foot Peddle Mod ( HERE ) Some SunBrella Canvas and a lot of sewing supplies – There is probably at least $200-$300 worth of misc. sewing supplies and spare items for the sewing machine.
