........--- SJ1000 Video Camera Mount ---
I wanted to mount a video camera to the bike for a few times we might want one on one of our trips. I have 4 SJ1000 video cameras since we use them on the race car at the Bonneville Salt Flats. I bought the cameras for about $70 at the time and have been quite happy with them and the picture quality. We couldn't afford to put 4 Go-Pro's on the car. There is a good review on them ( HERE ).
You can see a video from the race care ( HERE ) and one driving around town ( HERE ) and I'll put one up later that was take from the bike.
I made a simple mount out of some 3/16 inch thick aluminum strap. The mount would probably work with a number of cameras that mount off of their base. I have a TIG welder so aluminum is no problem. If you had a MIG make it out of steel and paint it or have it powder coated. No welder? A shop or a friend wouldn't charge much especially if all that they had to do was weld the two pieces together.
The back tab that the camera attaches to is 3/16 X 1 1/2 X 1 1/2 inch strap.
The longer piece is 3/16 X 1 inch strap.
I drilled two 3/16 inch holes in the front cowling on the little ears that stick out and ....
.... used 3/16 inch Stainless screws, washers and nylock nuts to hold the bracket to the cowling.
The camera is low enough that it is not in the riders sight-line and ...
.... is mounted just barely behind the windscreen for a clear picture. I wanted it as close to the windscreen without touching it as possible.
I will try and get a video up soon. I took one but at the moment it is home on a thumb drive and I'm out of town so can't post it. You don't see the windscreen in the video. This camera came with multiple mounting options. I chose to use the one where it is inside the waterproof housing which still allows you to work the camera via the buttons on the housing.
