........--- Givi TN532 Engine Guards ---
I'd been lucky the first year that we owned the V-Strom and hadn't dropped the bike but was worried about that so started looking at Engine/Crash Guards. I liked the Givi and it seemed to get good reviews so ordered a set.
I felt they were an easy install and I had them on in a little under an hour not rushing anything.
They mount just above the engine to existing mounting locations and ...
..... I removed the stock screws on one side of the bike and installed the bar on that side with the supplied Allen Head screws. Then did the same on the other side and didn't fully tighten the screws at this point.
Next I joined the bars at the front of the engine .....
.... following the installation instructions, shown above. Once that was done I went back and tightened all the rest of the bolts. You can find the instructions ( HERE ). The bars are very solidly mounted.
I had no intention of testing the bars out but a few days later we were up at a local lake on gravel and stopped to dismount. I didn't put the kickstand down and Dottie swung off the back of the bike and I didn't compensate and the bike went over on its side on the gravel. The only damage was the scratches in the left side bar that you can see above. I was more than happy about that! We were able to get the bike up on its tires, something I wondered about how hard that was going to be for to old people. It wasn't that bad despine the fact the bike was laying on a slight down-slope with the handlebars down hill.
If you are looking for Engine/Crash Bars I'd give these a look. We are happy with them. I also wondered if they might make the bike look more cluttered but they aren't all that noticeable and look nice in our view. I've read about some increased vibration with these bars, but I haven't noticed any difference. There are two rubber O-Rings that mount where the bars join in front of the engine. I wonder if maybe those weren't in earlier versions, but I don't have a clue if that was the case or not.
