Earlier I had designed an ….
.. End of Track to use on sidings and that would mate up with ME Code 55 track. More about it and the print files ( HERE ). I then built a small test track for Loco's but also to test the different turnout controls I'd come up with, ( HIDDEN SWITCHER ) and ( GRAVITY SWITCHER ). This resulted in some very short sidings past the test turnout. If I used the 'End of Track' shown above there was a good chance I'd end up running the loco's coupler into them and didn't want that. So..................
.. I came up with an 'End of Track with Shell Bumper'. This concept has the loco's shell contact simulated concrete bumpers before the couple can contact the back 'End of Track' bumper. I had also at this point laid all of the cork and had it sanded and painted so designed the one above with an extended bottom so that it would sit at the end of the cork on the layout's top with only the forward tie on the end of the cork roadbed. This allowed me to have the siding just a tad longer. I only used these on three of the sidings that were short and ended at the layouts edge.
I also made another print design without the extended bottom that lays entirely on the cork roadbed ( shown above ).
Will these stop the coupler from hitting in all cases? Well only if the coupler doesn't extent to far from the end of the shell. One could either modify the print file or add something to the front of the shell bumper so the shell contacts it sooner.
I painted them to resemble a wooden 'End of Track” sitting on a concrete foundation.
Above one sees where I had ended the cork when it could of gone further but the 'End of Track with Shell Bumper' handles that with its extended base past the cork.
I did this since I didn't like the idea of running the coupler and trip pin into the end of the track bumper if I could avoid it.

It seems to work fine with the couple loco's I've tried to this point. If I have some with longer couple shanks and it proves to be a problem I'll either print new ones with the shell bumper moved or add to the one side of the current ones.
