….........--- U.P. N Scale Rotary Snowplow Build Pt. 3 --- …....................
=========================================
I put together a final video on the plow/tender ( HERE ).
You can find the print files ( HERE ).
=========================================
You have a number of options on how you build this. Simplistic would be to print the plow alone and the blade without a motor to drive the blade. Use it with the tender that you can print as part of this build or with another tender of your choice. Up next would be to power the blade with a simple decoder controlling the motor. With the decoder you could also add lights. That option will be shown here with the 4 function (used 3) ESU LokPilot decoder I used but you could easily substitute a different decoder for the LokPilot (they are only about $30 so would be my choice).
Last build would be with sound, either something you come up with or the Bluetooth sound that I've done which I think I have less than $25 in total.
900098 above can be seen if you are going across Wyoming at Hanna, WY ( HERE ) . Detour off I80 onto old US Route 30 between Laramie and Rawlins . Route 30 has been bypassed in this stretch by I80 to the south of it.
U.P.'s rotary plows were painted silver in the 50's-70's my time period so......
..... I decided to follow suit with silver. You could paint any color you choose, black and .....
....... red being very common.
The following is how I put mine together....
I have the holes sized for the taps shown above and with the resin I'm using (Siraya Tech 'Build) I can tap without pre-drilling the holes.
The frame/scoop shown above has been updated from the one in the picture above but other than that the rest of the parts are the same. Link to the 12V Micro Electric Gear Motor ( HERE ), 2mm bearings ( HERE) and 2mm shaft ( HERE ).
I went with a 60 rpm motor but would probably do with a 100 rpm if I did it again or might still go that route. Look at the video ( HERE ) and judge for yourself.
.
On to actual wiring....
