..--- Trailer Hitch Motorcycle Carrier ---

I wanted some options for hauling the Suzuki 200 and the Suzuki 400 before it so bought...

…. the carrier shown above that mounts in the trailer hitch receiver. I bought it so that I could bring the Suzuki DRZ400 home, since I had to travel to New Mexico to pick it up. That bike didn't work out for me with the tall seat and the weight was a problem if I dropped it as I ride alone and I'm over 70 now. So I sold the 400 and bought the 200 which I really love.

I like to make things but I couldn't of made a carrier for much less than this one and I really like it except for two minor details. One is that when you push or power the bike on the carrier the front wheel drops down into the first opening on the right above and hangs to some degree there. The second minor detail is that when the bike is strapped in with low tire pressure the front tire really collapses on the end of the carrier. Small thing but I want to fix them if I could.

I built a wooden prototype for where the front wheel rests that would give the tire ….

..... a wider flatter area to rest on and tried it out. I like it so ...

…. used it to get the angle correct for a similar piece that I made from aluminum.

….. I bolted it to the one end of the carrier and moved to the other end.

I also made a quick wooden prototype for this end and tried it out also and now the bike goes on easier.

…. trial fitted it as I went along.

It was also bolted to the end of the rack.

This project went along pretty quickly and I'm happy with the results. A good carrier is now even better. If you are looking for a carrier this is still a good one even if you don't do these mods.

After we bought a Polaris ATV we started to haul the ATV in a trailer I had made for a pickup I junked out. If the trailer was attached to the Suburban, then I couldn't have the bike carrier attached, so came up with the following …...

….. so that we could use the bike carrier on the trailer's tongue with the ATV in the trailer. One big plus to this was that now we had long foldable ramps to load the ATV and these were also much better to load the bike with also vs. the shorter/steeper ramp that came with the bike carrier. I then had to modify the carrier and the ramps some to make this work but it was well worth it and the bike carrier can be used on either the trailer or the back of the Suburban. I do also have a receiver under the front bumper on the Suburban but have never tried carrying the bike there yet, but it is an option if I was pulling a different trailer and wanted to take the bike.
