.............................--- New Head & All New Plumbing -- Part II ---
==================================================
After pulling the old head and all the plumbing to and from it ....
.... we ended up with an ugly hole in the platform for the head.
A cardboard pattern was made and ....
... transferred to a piece of marine plywood, which was cut to shape.
The backside of it was cut at a taper for a better fit up against the port-side wall.
Another pattern was made for ....
... a second trim piece to compliment the first piece.
The manual pump for the head was going to be mounted on the wall above and to the right of the head. To do so I needed to gain access to the back side of that wall so I cut and access hole in the shelf above that area. Upon completion of mounting the pump a removable piece of plywood was cut to cover the access hole but it can be removed for future access.
Since the plywood on the wall is relatively thin a packing plate was made to distribute the pump's mounting over a larger area.
The backing plate had the holes drilled in it that were needed to mount the pump. The plate was first used on the outside of the wall as a pattern to drilled the required holes for the pump.
Then it was slid down to the back side of the wall through the access port and the pump was mounted to the wall and the backing plate behind the wall.
The pump is out of the way when using the head and the handle slides in and out of the pump so it is also out of the way when not in use.
A couple pieces of aluminum angle were cut and ....
... are used to ....
Hold the head's platform board in place along with some additional screws that were put in place vertically through the platform into the fiberglass below.
Since the head bolts to the plywood and the nuts and washers are on the bottom side of the platform I had to cut a little more of the fiberglass out to clean those bolts and nuts.
The head is bolted to the plywood and then it is put in place and held there by the aluminum angle pieces and some additional screws. It is mounted securely.
Next up is running the new intake plumbing to the head and the waste plumbing from the head to the pump and onto the holding tank. Also all new plumbing will be installed for the pump-out line from the tank to the deck and from the tank to the thru-hull at the bottom of the boat.
