....................

Our best day on the water. Winds were predicted to be in the low 20's with gusts into the low 30's and in the right direction translated into some miles covered and a few exciting moments.

....................

First though we had to motor back 3 miles to the point where we had finished sailing the day before. At first the winds were vary light and we weren't making much speed but ...

....................

...... the winds started picking up.

....................

The lake opens up in the Good Hope Bay area and …..

....................

..... the lower Henry Mountains were coming more into view. We had the main on the first reef by now and were running a little over 6 knots at times and usually in the high 5's.

....................

The wind kept piping up and …...

....................

.... the dinghy was straining to keep up with us.

....................

We decided that it was time to ….

....................

.... go to the new high 2nd reef that the sail now had. Dottie brought the boat around into the wind to put the reef in and upon completing that we found the boat hove to and had a hard time getting it out of that mode and moving down the lake again.

....................

The boat continued to run in the 5-6 knot range under reefed main and greatly reduced genoa that was furled in probably equivalent to a 90% jib.

....................

These were the highest winds I'd personally ever continued to sail in and the Mac was doing fine but we were running so if things started getting a little too exciting at times you couldn't just release the main like you can on a reach in high winds. Dottie luckily has no problem with these conditions so that was nice and …..

....................

.... we still had time to enjoy the great scenery. We finally came to a turn where the lake does a 180 in a very sharp turn and we found ourselves with the wind now in our face. We were having a hard time tacking in these conditions and the lake was very narrow here so we gave up and headed for a side canyon....

....................

..... where we again beached the boat for the night. We took a short walk and ….

....................

.... then returned to the boat and decide to remain here for a day off so spent the next day here also as a cold front passed.
