Out of bed not too late but not too early either. We.....

..... backed the boat down one side of the ramp out of the way and setup the Zodiac not once but twice as we had one of the caps for an air valve trapped under the floor on the first go-around. We put the Zodiac in the water and moved her to the end of the nice floating dock at the ramp. I forgot to put the stern wheels that let you roll the Zodiac around in the up position and of course over the next week or so they went missing.

Next with Dottie guiding me the boat was backed down into the water. The ramp wasn't very steep so I had to back in further than I ever had to before. By the time the boat would float off I had the front wheels of the Suburban in the water which was a new situation for me. The Suburban is 4 wheel drive and the ramp wasn't slick so had no problem pulling the trailer out and up to the parking area. Still I wondered how far I would have to back in with ballast in the boat and made a note to myself that it was time to try 'blowing the ballast' when we returned to take out so that the boat would be sitting higher in the water.

By the time we were in and the Suburban/trailer were parked the wind was in the 20's with gusts into the 30's, with 40's predicted via NOAA weather on the VHF. The side arm of the lake where the ramp and marina are was somewhat protected and we were tired so we decided to go to the south side of the arm just a short distance from the ramp and anchor for the night.

We pulled into a shallow area just off the south shore with the wind coming from the southwest and decided to put two anchors down due to the high wind speeds. That went without a hitch and Dottie did great on the tiller and running the outboard considering this was her first time in the boat. During the trip she felt she was a slow learner, but just the opposite was actually the case.

So finally we were actually in the water or on the water and could just relax some and enjoy some kids playing joyfully along the shore in the water nearby. Before dark everyone left and we had the anchorage all to ourselves and had the first visit from antelope. They were on the hillside just south of the boat. We would see many more before the trip was over.
