Originally the cut in the locker cover went straight across. I changed the cut to go part way from the left straight to the middle and then had the cut curve down like shown above. This was done to clear the windlass when opening the cover. I then pieced the cutoff piece to the right back to the front piece with the aluminum strips. Aluminum was also used to protect the edges where the chain goes through.
Some rain or other water might enter the locker compartment via the opening where the chain goes through. This isn't a big deal as the locker has a drain in the bottom of it overboard.
When not in use the anchor chains from both anchors can lay off to either side of the windlass as shown above for the starboard anchor and in the next picture for the port anchor.

At the time I'm writing this I've only used the windlass at the boatyard to pull up both anchors from the ground below the boat. I'm feeling pretty confident that it will work fine out on the water. The plan is to pull the nylon rode and the chain in by hand and only use the windlass to lift the anchor off the bottom up onto the bow roller once we are over the anchor. I'll try and update this later.
