The Drop Tanks are part of the sale and I'm not sure what they are from.

I was going to use only the forward end of the tanks for the nose area on the car. The tanks also are not symetrical along the seam you see on the top one. It is my understanding that the side closer to the wing is not exactly the same shape as the bottom surface due to the effects of the wing or body next to that surface.

If you want to use only one tank then I would orient it on the front similar to what the top one appears in the picture. If you turned it on its side (which I was going to do) then I would cut both tanks on the seam and use one side of each and rejoin them so that the nose is symmetrical side to side.
