After a nice two days in Seven Mile Canyon we needed to head further towards the ramp. Our goal was to take out on Monday so we had Sat/Sun left. I'd seen pictures of Warm Springs Canyon and wanted to take the boat in there, but it wasn't a place you could easily stay over night. The plan was to visit it and then get closer to the ramp and look for a place to stay for one or two nights and then head for the ramp.

....................

We motored south, down lake, and turned into the mouth of Warm Springs Canyon.

....................

The canyon has huge vertical walls that are of the Navajo Sandstone Formation. The Navajo Sandstone makes up a lot of the high vertical walls in portions of the lake and if you are on top of it is nice rock to walk on. Most of our hikes were on this formation.

....................

As we entered the canyon a medium size powerboat passed us and went to the end of the canyon. You can see it in the 2 pictures above and it gives you some idea how tall the canyon walls are.

....................

It left and we had the end of the canyon to ourselves. A place well worth visiting if you are on the lake. We then exited the lake and headed south looking for a place to spend the night. We went into a couple side coves and one was really nice but someone else was already there.

....................

The next one proved to be really nice, although we had to run through some brush to get to the small sandy beach at the end of it. Going through the brush I was on the bow and saw some really large bass in the 2-4 lb range in the clear water. I was excited about the prospects of fishing here.

....................

With the boat secured we went on a nice walk, along which we passed …..

....................

..... some really nice potholes.

....................

We continued to climb on the Navajo Sandstone taking time to take in the view back towards the boat. Right before we had started on the walk some fishermen came in and started fishing the brush. You can barely see their boat in the picture above. They said they were participating in a bass tournament. They caught one nice bass but not one of the really large ones I had seen. They weren't the only ones to come in and fish the brush....

....................

In or right next to some of the potholes were little micro climates where plants thrived due to the water the pothole collected and held.

....................

The first day and night there was another boat closer to the main part of the lake that was dry camping. You can see them middle/right in the picture above and you can also see the guys fishing near our boat.

....................

Our destination was the top of the rock knob shown above and it was still a ways off in this picture, further than what it appears.

....................

Once we were on to we had a great view of the large canyon on the other side of the lake and ...

....................

.... back down to our much smaller side canyon and ...

....................

..... down the lake towards Halls Crossing and off to Navajo Mountain in the distant background. We were still about 13+ miles from the boat ramp at Halls Crossing at this point.

....................

.We hadn't taken enough water and were glad to get back down to the boat. We stayed here a second day as we really liked being able to easily walk the shoreline. We also both fished and had some luck but the big ones evaded us.
