=================== April 2nd =====================

Great sail on the Genoa from Pimlico down to the inlet into Allan's (some call it Allen's).

Ran at 4+ knots the whole run on just the Genoa as I was too lazy to put the main up and in no hurry.

As I approached the Allan Cay group I could see a few sailboats already in the anchorage. The building on the hilltop was a couple miles away at Highborne, my next stop.

A view of the south anchorage where I anchored and really only room for about one boat here as you can see all the shallow water, whiter water, out a ways towards the boat. The main anchorage is further up in the darker blue water.

Looking in at the 'Iguana beach' from the boat.

A view to the west and you can see a boat leaving the anchorage to the right above.

This large boat stayed out but one of the younger guys on it brought in 2 smaller kids on a jet ski to see the Iguanas.

Most of the boats that had been here for the previous night finally pulled out and most of the boats I was seeing on the trip were headed north and then west towards Florida as they had probably been down in the Bahamas over the winter.

The solar panels soaking up some rays.

A view of the cut going out to the southeast which takes you to Highborne and would be my route out of here.

The powerboat tours bring people in from Nassau to go ashore to see the Iguanas.

Luckily for me they took them up to the other Cay that also had the Iguanas on it.

When there was a lull in Iguana traffic I went ashore. You can just stand one place and soon they will come to you. These guys see more people every year that probably some famous people do. I know they see more than I do.

I took the opportunity to ....

take some pictures of them.

These guys have some interesting features that are very interesting if you are a serious Iguana watcher.

Gradually as the day went on more boats started coming in and used the main anchorage just to the north of the inlets to the anchorage.

A view from the beach looking north.

Picture your boat in this picture.

Looking out onto the Exuma Bank with the Tongue of the Ocean further out.

Looking towards the tower that you can see for miles that is at Highborne.

Also lots of boats anchored just outside of Highborne. Check out the huge one in the middle of the pack and most of the others weren't small either as they dwarf the sailboats in the anchorage.

I finally had some luck teaching one of the Iguanas how to operate the camera.

This huge boat came in and just ahead of it you can see the people wading in to shore to the other Iguana beach.

Interesting boat being of a twin hull design.

Come in, see the Iguanas and leave was the mode for most. I can't imagine running a boat of this size in and out of these Cays and the narrow channels they have to use.

More and more boats came in as we approached sunset. This is a very protected anchorage from any angle except northerlies.

Some of the last visitors of the day.

The anchor lights looked like a constellation of stars during the night.

=================== April 3rd =====================

I decided one more day was going to be plenty of time here as...

.... I'd had enough of the tour boats and everyone else...

..... coming in and running right where my anchor rode was. I was sure sooner or later I'd feel the boat getting sucked off in one direction or the other as the rode wrapped around someone's prop. The guy above had 5 props and about 1740 HP more than I had with my puny 9.8 HP outboard.

Later this guy came in with a whole load of .....

.... teenagers who swam from the boat into shore. Before dark they also left and went outside somewhere.

The end of the day which was a good one regardless of all the Iguana visitors as I was one also. I took a long swim around the cove and that was great. Just outside maybe only 50 feet off shore was a coral head and I almost went and swam on it but being alone and not as strong of a swimmer as I was some years back I decided I'd wait a while to swim over one. There were a number of the colorful reef fish swiming where I was wading near the coral head in the reef there.
